                                                    J. Woods is the author of Gilded Feathers

An alluring choice. A fantastical revelation. But what if it changed... everything?

Familiar with the art of the nightmare, twenty-two year old university student Cole Evans can’t help but feel a deep connection to the horrifying illusions of her slumber.

Irrevocably drawn to obscure fantasy, Cole faces a defiant temptation of romance and her first encounter with the mysterious Drex. Covered in tattoos, she unexpectedly finds herself attracted to his dark magnetism and emerald eyes. Before her life takes an impossible turn.

Uncovering Drex’s true Guardian identity, she is forced on a terrifying journey through the stars into his world - one that brilliantly weaves together the struggle of danger and desire. And the impossible reality of gilded feathers.

Woods writes NA and adult novels with a foundation of romance, paranormal and science fiction. She is the author of Gilded Feathers, Gilded Faith, Gilded Promise and Infinitely Gilded -four novels that make up the Gilded Feathers series.

Interview With J. Woods

What was the first book you wrote?
The first novel I wrote was Gilded Feathers... with a few failed attempts before it, it seemed to be the one to come out victorious! Not including of course,

What was your favorite book as a child?
My favorite children’s book would probably be Madeline and my favorite novel as a child, well it’s a tossup. The first novel I ever read was Black Beauty and the one after, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - both hold special places in my heart.

What made you write The Gilded Feathers series?
The Gilded Feathers series started off with a question when I was watching Ancient Aliens - my favorite TV show! - I remember asking myself what kind of story this could be if I added a little romance so I jotted down the idea in my phone and when one idea turned into a full page of notes and an outline appeared I just had to keep going with it!

If you could change one thing about your book(s) what would it be?
The stories are written in first person, from the point of view of the main character - I think it would be cool to have a dual point of view from both the main character and her male counterpart or third person point of view...

Who is your favorite character in your books?
This is a tough question!!! I’ve developed such a connection with all of them I don’t know if I could choose a favorite. I love Chloe’s story which you can read in book three (the novel is from her point of view) and Heychex is really interesting to me, I love writing about him and where he is going to take me!

What is your favorite book?
I swear I have a new one every week! I don’t know if I could choose just one - if you present me with a happy ever after, I’m a gonner. I go through books like they are candy so choosing just one would be impossible. Some books that have stayed with me with a profound sense are, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill, The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, The History of Love by Nicole Krauss, Pilgrim by Timothy Findlay

What is your favorite author?
Favorite authors... hmm. Some of my favorite romance authors are Maya Banks, Bella Andre, Cherry Adair... I’m a big fan of romance series and these gals know how to do it right! I think both C.S. Lewis and J.K. Rowling have the most fascinating imaginations plus the authors of my favorite novels would have to be included under the umbrella!

Who or what motivates you to write?
I’m one of those obsessive people where I get an idea and I just kind of sit behind my computer until it’s finished. Even after I close my laptop for the night with plans to continue the next day I’ll lie awake all night with the notes open on my phone and just write. If I’m stuck on what direction to take the idea I’ll listen to music or I’ll throw on a movie just to escape for a little bit. Sometimes it’s just the need to step away for an hour that actually gives me the ability to go back into it with more ideas than ever.
My daughter is a great motivation - she’s five and has a brilliantly creative imagination. Some of the names in the Gilded Feathers series actually came from her and the names she comes up with for her ‘stuffies’ or her ‘imaginary friends’
Another motivation is as simple as its fun. I thoroughly enjoy writing and creating stories, being able to lose myself in a completely different world is amazing - and I’m lucky enough to be able to do that every day!

Do you have any plans to write another book soon?
I do! I already have a number of outlines prepared - two separate series and a standalone novel. Now it’s just the difficult decision on which to delve into first!

Free spot!
Writing the Gilded Feathers series has been so much fun. I’ve laughed and I’ve cried, I fell in love and felt my heart break with the characters of the book and I hope you can experience the same. I absolutely adored each and every moment I spent writing about Cole, Chloe & Jayde, Drex, Tommy & Heychex and everyone in between. I’d love to take a moment to say thank you for reading my books & I can’t wait to hear from you after you finish reading. I hope you love them just as much as I do. Warm Wishes & Happy Reading!
