About the Author

Words have always loved to come play with Clarissa O.
Clemens. As a young girl and teen, Clarissa wrote for her school
paper and used the written word to channel all the angst and longing for love through her poems and short stories. After
her divorce, she again took pen to paper to process all the
emotions that were slamming into her head and heart to try
and heal, have hope again for love and intimacy, and rediscover
the sensual being that had been lurking unattended for many
years. After she shared these poems with close friends they
strongly encouraged her to find a way to publish them and
share them with the world.

In 2008, Clarissa graduated with her BS in Accounting and had
been able to land a great job as an Accounting/HR Manager
for a private country club. In July of 2011 she self-published
her 1st book of erotic poetry from the series, The Poetic Art
of Seduction. In addition to her 3 volumes of erotic poetry she
has written to date, Ms. Clemens has published 2 volumes of
hopeful heart poems in the series, The Poetic Diary of Love
and Change; she is currently working on the 3rd volume to be
published very soon.

Besides her passion for writing, Clarissa loves to play golf,
travel, read, explore music, and spend time with family and
friends. Her hope in sharing her poems and written works is to
help put passion back into people's lives and rekindle the flame
in their hearts for love and desire.

Interview with the Author

Tell us a little about yourself.

Born and raised a California girl, I spent my childhood and early life in the San Fernando Valley
just over the hill from Los Angeles. It was a great area to live in to be exposed to a wide range of
arts, music, and culture and definitely influenced my need for creative expression. I had always
dreamed of being some type of artist but did not think that this would be something I did for a
living. Having a natural ability in math, I found myself in jobs related to the financial industry.

I met and married my ex-husband, left the financial job, and pursued a career in textile art for a
number of years when we were first married. We then moved from the Los Angeles area up to
the foothills above Sacramento in the late 80’s. It was a great area to start a family and enjoy the
beauty of the Sierra Foothills. We had our daughters while living here and loved our home in the
country. This was quite a difference from my life in the city and suburbia.

Unfortunately, as life happens, our marriage was no longer viable. I ended up with sole custody
of our children and decided that in order to take the best care of my family that I needed to go
back to school and get a degree. In 2008, I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Business,
Accounting.

Working in the accounting field was not my ultimate goal though. When I went back to school
I decided that I would get my degree, work at a good paying job, and then I would publish my
poetry.

Writing is not something I do. Writing is something I channel. I love to share the streams of written
expression that come to me with the world. So far the world seems to be enjoying what they see.

What was the first book you wrote?

The Poetic Art of Seduction series of erotic poetry was my first venture into the realm of self-
publishing. I had written 100’s of poems after my divorce in 2000 and compiled my favorites to
start the first volume published July of 2011. I decided to start with the sexy ones first to see what
kind of reaction I would receive. I envisioned a book that had my poems with complementary
seductive photos to add a visual dash of spicy along with my words.

To date, I have the 3 volumes of erotic poetry along with The Erotic Collection that has all 3 of
the volumes under 1 cover. In addition to the erotic series, I also have the poetry I wrote to heal
my broken heart and give me hope that I would find love again in my series, The Poetic Diary of
Love and Change. There are currently 2 volumes available with a 3rd due for release in a couple
of weeks.

Who or what motivates you to write?

Life. Love. Lust. The words flow out of me as if it is coming from somewhere other than my brain.
I am here just to catch the words and transcribe them into works of creative expression. I have a
huge sense of playfulness to me – I believe that helps for me to allow the poetry to flow without a
filter. My heart and imagination motivate me and fill me with ideas and subjects to wrap my poetry
around. In the last 7 years since I met my sweet Man, I find that he is my real life muse. We have
an incredibly fun and passionate love for each other and many of my recent poems are fueled by
our adventures.

Who are your top 3 go to authors?

The 3 authors/poets that I am influenced are Anais Nin, Edgar Alan Poe, and Dr. Suess. Nin is
my role model for erotica, Poe for his beautiful yet dark poetic sensibilities, and Seuss for his
playful, colorful, rhyming abilities.

What are you currently working on?

I am writing the last few poems for the 3rd volume of my poetry series, The Poetic Diary of Love
and Change. This series is composed of poems that I wrote during and after divorce to heal my
broken heart and give myself hope that I would love again someday. This newest addition to the
series should be available by the end of July. I am also working on the next erotic book that will
be more than just poetry.

When writing, what is your weapon of choice? Pin and paper, or computer?

Since I never know when lines for a poem are going to land in my head, my ‘weapon of choice’
is whatever is the handiest. I find that I end up composing most of my poems on my smartphone
these days. Since Twitter has been my creative spawning ground lately, I just copy and paste the
tweets onto my note app that later gets transcribed over to a word doc on my computer.

If you were a box of crayons, what color would you be, and why?

Red! Red is a color that inspires passion and creativity in me. I use the color on book covers,
websites, and it finds itself in my wardrobe and on my fingers and toes often.

If you could write a book with any author in the world dead or a live, who would they be, and
why?

I would like to write a book of poetry with Edgar Alan Poe. Taking his inclination for the dark
and foreboding side of life and combining it with my sultry joyful style would be quite an exciting
adventure. Dark and sexy poetry could appeal to a wide range of bookaphiles.
