Release Blitz & Book Review: JAX by J.L. Perry

Title: Jax
Author: J.L. Perry
Publisher: Hachette Australia
Genre: Contemporary Romance
 Release Date: November 27, 2016

Blurb

My name is Jaxson Albright. To my friends I’m known as Jax. I’m the disgraced son of well-known Politician, Malcom Albright. You could say I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I was supposed to follow in my father’s footsteps and move into politics. My whole childhood was spent being groomed for this role, but that wasn’t what I wanted. I had other plans.

To my family’s disgust, I’m inked, I’m pierced and I own and run a tattoo parlour, in the hip suburb of Newtown. I fit in here. I can be the man I was destined to be, the man my family are ashamed of. The son they regret having.

I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my saviour, Candice. My pink-haired angel. We grew up in the same circle, but like me, she’s an outcast. She refused to conform to society’s ways. She’s the only one who stuck by me and not only encouraged, but supported my dream.

I love her. No, correction—I’m in love with her. I have been for as long as I can remember. She has no idea how I feel. It’s a battle I struggle with daily. I’ve kept my secret all these years because I couldn’t risk losing her. That’s a chance I’m not prepared to take, because she’s my best friend; my only real family.

I’ve spent the last few years moving from one hot chick to the next, trying to mask these feeling I have. But it doesn’t help—I can’t get her out of my head. She still owns my damn heart.

How do you get over the girl you know you can never have? And how do you live without the one person on this earth who is made for you?

She’s my soulmate.

My Review
👠👠👠👠👠

J.L. Perry is a new author to me. But after this book I am wondering where have I been to miss her.

I was hooked. I had such a hard time putting this book down.

I loved Jax and Candice even though they pissed me off so many times. I wanted to throat punch them for pushing each other away and not seeing what was right in front of them.

I wanted to hug, slap, and just yell at them. But after it was all said and done, I was satisfied. I couldn't have asked for a better ending.

Now I need to read Carters book. I absolutely adored him.

Grab this book for yourself. Its a winner.

(A Special Forces: Operation Alpha Kindle World Novella)
Author: Wren Michaels
Release Date: November 22, 2016
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Jayla “Fox” McFadden 'MacGyvered' her way through college and right onto the radar of the CIA. Instead of getting busted, she got offered a job. She's a chemist by day, but moonlights on special missions utilizing her unique talents when needed, everything from bomb building to booby traps. She's fought tooth and black-polished nail to make her way in the world and prove she's more than a set of tits. From her thick, black eyeliner to her Doc Martens with leather mini-skirts, she stands out, and likes it that way. Noah “Hound” Kendrick is the best tracker on his SEAL team. Haunted by the fact that he got his mother killed, he put his body, mind, and soul into the SEALs in retribution, trying to make the world a better place. They are his duty and family now, nothing gets in the way. Especially love, as he refuses to open up his heart and lose someone at his expense ever again. Jayla's latest mission is to retrieve a list of buyers from an arms dealer. She's teamed with the SEALs who must take out a bunker hidden offshore near the dealer's private island. But a squall line from an impending hurricane throws off their plans as Jayla and Noah get separated from the team, washing up on a deserted air force base in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Now the Fox and the Hound must survive the elements and each other, as they ride out the physical and emotional storm heading their way.

Jayla gripped her beer so hard her knuckles turned white. She fully intended on flirting for some fun at the party, but she didn't expect anything to come of it. While SEALs were pretty to look at, they had a notorious rep for quick romps and even quicker exits. She refused to be a notch on a bedpost.
But her plans nosedived the minute she laid eyes on that Hound guy. Her head screamed at her to run far, far away. Her vadge yelled louder, forcing her to picture him with a lot less clothing involved. Damn his taunting forearm porn. Sinewy muscles flexed every time he took a drink of his beer. She ached to lick the plump lips framed by his stark jawline, with a chin that stuck out just a hair too far, yet it seemed a perfect fit on his asymmetrical face. Add in his big, broody forehead and she was done for.
His deep brown eyes locked onto her own, holding her in a staring match. The intensity in them freaked her out a little. A sure fire sign that when this guy wanted something, he'd let nothing get in his way. She broke their gaze and focused her attention on his short, dark brown hair, finding a pair of fancy-ass sunglasses sitting on top like some hot-shot movie star.
Find something annoying about him, Jayla, it'll be easier to diffuse the situation and walk away. And make it quick before you do something really stupid, like give him a lap dance on the cooler.
She glanced at some movement behind him only to find another SEAL headed her way, wearing a shit-eating grin with fuck-me eyes. Definite womanizing material. A pretty boy, with the bed count to match probably. Shit.
She focused back on Noah as she summed up her options. Plan A—exit the party early. Or Plan B...which was still a work in progress. Since Melinda drove them both to the party, she was stuck. Plan B it would have to be. Regret already toiled in her gut at the thought.
“Kiss me,” she whispered, not believing the words actually made it out of her head.
Noah blinked. “Say what?”
“Are you sure you're not deaf?” She sucked in a deep breath and launched herself at his lips.
He stumbled backward before wrapping one arm around her waist, keeping their balance. Jayla dropped her bottle behind him and slid her hands along his neck, taut with muscle and sun-kissed warmth. A twinge of excitement hit her belly as their lips met. For a shocked moment his mouth froze, before his lips slanted and welcomed her.
His cologne hit her nose, sending another frisson of adrenaline through her. He curled his fingers into her back. “What are you doing?” he mouthed against the kiss.
“Just go with it, okay?” she whispered back, still pressed to his mouth.
“Fine.” His lips curled into a smile and his other arm snaked around her, dipping her backwards as he deepened the kiss, sliding his tongue past her lips.
Jayla's heart plunged to her stomach, an impressive feat considering she now hung upside down in Noah's arms. His tongue swept away all thoughts as he explored her mouth with the fervor of a hormonal teenager, but far better technique. Her hands that once held the warmth of his neck now clung to his thick biceps for dear life, curling her nails into his skin. That was going to leave a mark.
“What are you doing?” she groaned into the kiss.
His lips vibrated against hers as he chuckled. “Going with it.”

Interview With Author Bri Amari

Hey guys! Jackie here!

Hope you enjoy!

Stalk Bri

Interview

Jackie: Tell us a little about you.

Bri: Bri Amari, crazy Canadian indie author by day, Brittaini the even crazier mom and wife by night.
I'm 28 and have a whole bunch of crazy quirks.
I have always written poetry but didn't have the courage to jump into novels until this year in June! Four days before my birthday I have myself 4 weeks to write a book and surprised myself by doing it in three.
Since I've written two more and am working on a second series!

Jackie: When writing is there something you keep next to you at all times? Like water or a snack?

Bri: I always have snacks, whatever's available. I try to limit this but usually there's a Monster Energy drink beside me as well. I do have a knit infinity scarf I like to make into my super-author writing hood sometimes lol!

Jackie:  What's one random fact about you that not many people know?

You know when you're little and adults ask what you want be when you grow up? Well I always answered with Vet, or dog breeder, but in my heart I always wanted to be a pirate. Still do lol.
I also have two Betty Book tattoos.

Jackie: Do you listen to music while writing? If yes, what do you listen to?

Bri: No music because I'm a lyrics liver and I'd hate to use a line because it was in my head. But I always have children yelling, hubby blaring the TV, and the two dogs rough housing as my background tune :).

Jackie: Tell us about your first book, Oblivious.

Bri: Oblivious started with the prologue. I was just writing to write out emotions about a family member with Cancer. It soon developed into a world and I spent two days fleshing out the 21 Royals of Gaia. It soon developed into a book and then a series focusing on social differences and bringing everyone together.
There is racial segregation, bigotry, social ladders and very strict 'normals'. Mothachail smashes through all of those barriers and starts her journey towards changing it all for good.

There's humour and romance, conflict and resolution but Oblivious can best be described as The Foundation to a much higher world and story.

Jackie: Where did the idea for oblivious come from?

Bri: I guess I kind of answered that in the last one didn't I. Dang. Well I guess I'll elaborate.

As I said previously the prologue came from grief and worry of my own, but that was all it was until Jazz's character was born to console my inner grief. She's strong and the best example of a real friend. Because when I pictured her, she was a woman of color (not sure ethnicity wise in our world but I envy her beautiful skin.) I knew that I could use the horrible things going on in our world to give this story purpose. Soon tons of characters were born of different races and the story took off on me.

Jackie: What is your favorite part in the book and why?

Bri: There is a scene where Mothachail is getting frustrated with the shocked reaction she's getting from the men in her life and she starts to ramble out her aggregation. She starts screaming about her mother being Medusa and her father, newly acquainted, has no idea how to handle it. In my mind I could picture 80% of father's doing the same and it made me laugh :).

Jackie: How does it feel to have your very first book published?

Bri: I am 100% over the moon. Release day felt like floating on a cloud. The support and sense of community or family in the online indie community is such an amazing feeling. It took lots of hard work editing and struggling with different laws (thanks Canada. Lol) and promotion and it feels like it's all paid off. I am so ready to do it again.

Jackie: What's next?

Bri: Well Book 2 of The Four Kingdoms Saga, Opalescent is in editing now :). I think I really grew my craft and was extremely satisfied with myself and where the story decided it wanted to go! I'm hoping to have it releases in January along with a 'Four Kingdoms Saga novella titled FaithLESS.

Book 3, Ostracized was my project for NaNo. The first draft is finished but is on the back burner for a bit. I hope to have that out in March.

But what I am most excited about ia my new series Davvey Jonez Locker. Which will follow the lives of men and women lost at sea in their afterlife as they become heros and guardians in the fight against the fire-spitters. A group of demons told of in Irish lore led by their mother Caorthannach. It will have Pirates, Captains, Soldiers, Selkies, Gods and Goddesses and of course Davvey Jonez!

Jackie: Tell us what inspired you to start writing.

Bri: I was dreading this question from the moment I made the decision to write because it's not a happy story. I read a book in May as a beta that was bad. Really bad. Worse than most new authors I'd read. It wasn't a matter of unprofessional editing (which we all do on a budget.) It was a matter of not understanding the time lines, back story ect. There were repeated scenes, plot holes etc. The editing wasn't great, like beyond missed errors. I trudged through it in an effort to help the author with my feedback. When the final copy came out I bought the book. Within moments I realized she had taken none of my advice and was charging people for product that wasn't ready for sale. In my anger I said "Fack this shit." If she could sell crap, I could sell non-crap. That anger gave me the courage to make the leap and I've never looked back. (Or spoken to/supported that author ever again.)

Jackie:  What is one word that explains how you felt to hit that publish button.

Bri: NervCited? It was an excited nervousness. The scary cat nerves didn't hit until today, day two.

Jackie: Do you have any tips for those inspiring authors out there that are taking that first step and hoping to publish someday??

Bri: Stacie Wilson told me the day I decided to write:
Write all the words, don't stop until they're all out. Never give up.

They kept me going.
But my best advice comes from Stephen King.
It's called the closed door writing policy, and I'm paraphrasing but it says:

Write your book for you first. Shut that door on the outside and write what makes you happy. Worry about your readers and your market in edits because if you don't live your story first, no one else will either.

And last but most importantly. Have fun, don't stress. This is a journey a lot of us have travelled and we are here for you too.

Izzy knows it's not fair to blame Trent for the tragedy, but opening herself up to loss again isn't something she's prepared to do, no matter how determined Trent is to show her that pain is part of life and that lovetheir lovecan make any suffering bearable.

5 stars

This is a good story. Everyone grieves differently. Izzy just really didn't know how to deal with the death of her brother. Trent never gives up on Izzy. I think Izzy could have been less of a bitch to him it would have made the story better.

10 Things I Wish I’d Known About Being An Author That I Didn’t Know Before…

The publishing industry is entirely subjective – just because one (or may thirty) agents or editors reject your manuscript (not you personally!), it doesn’t mean your book won’t find a home. Having said that, it’s important to take note of any feedback, especially if more than one editor or agents picks up on the same thing. It’s possible whatever it is, isn’t working. Listen and learn.
Point of View – SO important. If your reader is getting confused who is talking and when, you have a good chance of losing them and the book being tossed aside. Keep the POV tight and the reader will be entirely invested in the character.
Online courses – It was a long time before I discovered the joy and advantage of affordable online courses. They are available everywhere and give such valuable learning and feedback. Some of the best I’ve found are here: http://www.writeruniv.com/classes/ and here: http://lowcountryrwa.com/workshops/all-workshops/
Writer friends – VITAL!! The more writer friends you can surround yourself with, the more likely you are to succeed. This is just my humble opinion, but to have someone to lean on, cry with, laugh and succeed with is so, so important.
Critique Partners – leading on from friends. Find yourself a couple of good, quality critique partners (not your friends and family!). This may take a while to achieve and you might run into a few hard relationships before you find your perfect fit, but it will be worth it. Having someone to point our character and plot flaws, pacing issues and grammar without changing your voice could be the one thing missing in your process that could lead to publication.
Social Media – Vitally important. As is having a blog/website where people can find you easily. You might think this is only important once you’re published, but I’d say the sooner you can share your writing journey, the better. Do it now and establish a presence. Let people know you write and are looking for an agent or publisher. SO much useful information is shared on Twitter and Facebook.
Romance writing organizations – such as the RWA (Romance Writers of America) and the RNA (Romantic Novelists Association) are fantastic for places to attend regular Chapter meetings and get to know other romance writers in your area. The amazing annual conferences are worth the membership fee in themselves. Everyone in this organization, and those that run them, have been where you are. Lean on them to support through your publishing journey and beyond.
Be true to yourself – it will be a complete waste of your time and energy trying to follow market trends or emulate your favorite author/s in any way, shape or form. Write what you LOVE, write from the HEART and you will succeed. Tenacity, determination and passion are what make writers succeed. There isn’t a formula, or strategy. There is hard work, learning and commitment to the art that takes writers through a tough business. There aren’t any shortcuts – sorry!
Promotion – aahh, promotion. It’s what will take up equally as much of your precious work time as the actual writing itself. I came to this a little late with my first three books and thought they would somehow magically sell themselves even if I didn’t tell anyone about them. Duh! Promotion is time-consuming, but vital. Not only will you sell more books, but you will give time for readers to get to know you as a person too. If you throw yourself into promotion as an enjoyable part of the job instead of a chore, I guarantee you will get a lot out of it. Yes, it can eat into your writing time, but talking to readers and writers while promoting has led me to some of my best decisions with regard to my career.
And finally…the best piece of advice I was ever given. ALLOW YOURSELF TO WRITE A ‘CRAPPY’ FIRST DRAFT. What else is there to say? If you rid yourself of your internal editor and that horrible demon sitting on your shoulder saying ‘you’re not good’, will ‘never succeed’, it’s highly likely you won’t even finish a saleable book. Get the words down and worry about the polishing in the following drafts. I promise your output will quadruple overnight. Good luck!
